Providing opportunities to disadvantaged communities
For us, at Island Looms, thinking outside the box has led to the establishment of many workshops in handloom villages on the outskirts of rural Sri Lankan provinces in the central and eastern provinces, allowing our creators to work from the convenience of their own homes rather than a centralised workspace.
It is our goal to empower people financially, but also to build a manner of life in which they feel at ease.
Ethical & Handmade
The loom has been a part of Sri Lankan culture since its origin. For a variety of causes, the sector is currently in decline. These range from a dearth of qualified workers to high market pricing that are out of step with inflation and an absence of necessary infrastructure and technology.
